iTravelSyndicate Provides Digital Marketplace for Travel
Content
DUNEDIN, Fla., Jan. 4, 2001 -- Phillip Hastings is a typical travel writer. He's out of town three of every
seven days, and during those four home days he's writing
articles and running errands.
"I sell First North American Serial Rights for all of my
articles, which are usually assigned to me by national and
regional magazines," says Hastings, who lives in Burbank, Calif.
"Friends and colleagues tell me I could double my income
by selling reprint rights. I'm sure they're right, you know,
but when do I have time?"
Hastings' more than 700 travel articles, which span a
successful 15-year career, set archived on his computer.
"The only time I've sold reprint rights," adds
Hastings, "is when editors have come to me directly,
which is rare."
iTravelSyndicate, a new Web site from Marco Polo Publications,
Inc., allows travel writers to earn more money for their
valuable travel content through its online syndication
service.
With more than 1,000 registered travel editors and more than
3,700 travel writers worldwide, iTravelSyndicate brings these
two groups together by offering nonexclusive reprint rights
for sale online.
Here's how it works:
1) Travel writers register with iTravelSyndicate and syndicate
their articles online. They set the syndication price (how
much an editor will pay for nonexclusive reprint rights) and
they also may syndicate as many articles as they choose. iTravelSyndicate does not charge writers a single penny.
2) iTravelSyndicate's more than 1,000 registered editors, who
work for magazines, newspapers, Web sites and publishing
companies, then can literally shop the company's syndicated
travel content and immediately purchase nonexclusive reprint
rights at prices the writers set.
3) Within 30 days, the writer whose article was purchased will
receive a check from iTravelSyndicate for 60% of the
syndication price. For instance, if the writer syndicates an
article for $100, he/she will receive $60 every time that
article's syndication rights are purchased. The article can be
sold an unlimited number of times. (Traditional syndicates
offer writers 40% to 50% of the syndication price at best.)
About iTravelSyndicate
iTravelSyndicate, which debuted in January 2001, is a
21st-century syndication service that sells nonexclusive
reprint rights for travel content to more than 1,000 editors
worldwide. Its aim is to empower travel writers and offer
editors convenience and quality at affordable prices.
